This is a great activity to help students look for clues in new vocabulary and make connections with what they see and what they already know. First, they are given 32 French words. For each word, they are also given an English word that shares a root, prefix, or suffix. They have to use their inference skills to guess the meaning of the French words.
Next, they are given a list of character names from Disney and Harry Potter (Lumière, Voldemort, etc.) and asked to make connections between who the characters are and how they got their name.
This is a great activity to leave in your sub binder.
