Teach your kids to read by starting with the proper building blocks. This resource will allow your students to practise blending a consonant and a short vowel.
The booklet is perfect for either whole-teaching or small groups. Students start by reading the letters independently, then blending them together. You can then have students fill out the printing portion, or have them do it independently at a later date. As a class or small group, you then sing the vowel song. Teach them to sing the song in their head as a reading strategy, whenever they get stuck on a blend that they find tricky.
In my experience, consonant-vowel blending will come very easily to about a quarter of the kids in a class. With continual booklet practise, half will pick it up gradually. For the quarter that will find it more difficult, I’ve included supplementary game ideas. Working on this a little bit at a time, but often, is crucial.
Note: As Q is accompanied by U in French, the booklet presents it as QU avec un a fait QUA, QU avec un E fait QUE, etc.., with the exception of Q avec un U fait QU. Additionally, both sounds of C & G (dur et doux) are included with helpful visuals.
If you have a moment, please leave some feedback. Thanks :)
