This is a mini vocab/cultural lesson followed by a guided authentic activity to reinforce their learning.
The bell work activity includes pictures of tv shows which students need to match to the tv category name (https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/French-TV-shows-3068910)
Students should then have time to practice their vocabulary.
The lesson component sets the scene that the class is looking at the French tv guide to figure out what to watch. This introduces students to tv guide terminology and how programs are scheduled in France.
I follow this up with a textbook activity display part of a tv guide and students need to answer vrai/faux questions. I use the T'es Branché Level 2 textbook activity pg. 24 #1. If you do not use this textbook, you can create your own similar activity.
The rest of the class period is devoted to an authentic cultural products exploration. Students are given the link to the French tv guide online. This again, will really help them to see how the tv schedule is different than in the USA. Tell students that if they click on the television program's name, they will find more information about that programming. Students are given a mini paragraph outline to practice writing about their show of preference incorporating the vocabulary and expressions of this unit. Tips are provided to help guide them. All of the directions are on the PowerPoint, but I also enter them into our course website so that students can have easy access to the link and work on at home if they are absent.
