This set of French vocabulary cards – Les Couleurs – features 16 different colors and is designed to help students learn and identify the colors. Colors that have both masculine and feminine forms feature both spelling variations to help familiarize students with the variations.

Included in this purchase are two different sets of vocabulary cards as well as a bonus:

Set 1: Single-Sided Vocabulary Cards featuring the name of the color accompanied by a picture.

      • Ideas for play:
        • A) Place all cards, face-up, in rows (or scattered).
          • Have students match the word to the picture. (Side “A” to Side “B”)
          • The game is over when all the cards have been matched.
        • B) Mix up the cards and place them, face down, in rows.
          • Have students take turns trying to find matches.
          • Rules:

• Turn over any two cards.

• If the two cards match, keep them.

• If they don't match, turn them back over.

• The idea of the game is to remember what was on each card and where it was (students should be watching and trying to remember during the other player's turns).

• The game is over when all the cards have been matched.

Bonus: Jeu De Couleurs a color matching game with a tic-tac-toe/BINGO like ‘feel’

Distribute Jeu de Couleurs boards to students. Call out color words (at random, remembering to keep track of colors called). Students will cover the appropriate square as the teacher calls out color words. The objective is to be the first to cover their board.

  • Suggestions for differentiation:
    • alternate between feminine and masculine variations
    • use color words in sentences
    • use descriptive vocabulary, without using the color name, to describe the color
    • show “side B” from vocabulary cards (set 2) rather than verbalizing color names

  • Variations for covering the Jeu de Couleurs board:
    • 3 in a row (diagonal, horizontal or vertical)
    • 4 corners
    • “X” (cover both diagonals)
    • “T” (cover top row, horizontally & cover middle row, vertically)
    • “L” (cover first row, vertically & bottom row, horizontally)
    • Box (cover every square EXCEPT for the middle square)
    • Cover it All (every square must be covered)

Les Couleurs vocabulary cards include the following: rouge, orange, jaune, vert/verte, bleu/bleue, violet/violette, rose, noir/noire, blanc/blanche, marron, turquoise, gris/grise, argent, or, bronze, multicolore.
