Here are 30 winter-themed speaking and/or writing prompts for ALL French students. There are 12 beginner prompts (Que portes-tu en hiver?), 12 intermediate prompts (Explique ce qui te plaît en hiver et ce qui ne te plaît pas), and 6 advanced (IB applicable) prompts (Sur ton blog, tu décris une journée spéciale qui s’est passé dans le mois de janvier). There is a 31-word winter vocab list to use as a reference.
These prompts can be used in any or all of the following (yet not limited to): warm-up activity, exit ticket, writing center stations, in-depth writing activity, group conversations, early finishers, with a substitute, partner interviews, before or after breaks, in midst of balancing snow days, with an eLearning day, recording selves and re-listening to focus on pronunciation and spontaneity, etc.
Because each question is marked via number of snowflakes as either beginner, intermediate or advanced, you can accommodate all learners in the same classroom. For example, Student A really needs a beginner-type question but Student B benefits from a more challenging intermediate question. This allows for both students to be appropriately challenged.
This can be downloaded as a PDF or in Google Forms. Remember, you and your students must have Google accounts to access the form. There are modification ideas (speaking, writing, and digital) included in the download.
These activities complement the prompts well:

***Need a Sub Plan? We created one with this winter vocabulary just for that time when you will be gone. And what's great about it?? It's for all levels, the sub doesn't need to know French, applicable to any length of class, students will still learn, no down time for disruptions, vocabulary words are recorded into presentation, directions for sub are clear and organized, and there is enough material for early finishers or as follow-up upon your return.
