Here are 4 ice breakers that I find useful for the beginning of the year. All activities are available in French or English for the varying levels of students out there.
Activities include:

1. Find someone who - in the same format as all of my Find someone who... activities, on a printable grid sheet with decorative border
3 versions: In English only, in French with English directions, in French with French directions.

2. Would you rather? (in French or English) - printed on task cards, 24 questions in all. You can pass these out to students, use them as seated partner speaking activities, or put them on the wall and allow students to move through the questions with a partner. I give one question to each student and have them do an around the world activity. There are 6 fun ways to use these detailed in the product.

Also includes Would you rather...? interview style with student writing pages for partner's answers.

The following questions are on a printable page that can be projected or handed out. Both activities are provided entirely in French and entirely in English.
Each activity is also available on a printable page if you would prefer a handout.

3. I'm someone who would...

4. A deserted island

The goal of this activity is to get to know each other. If appropriate, have your students speak as much French as possible, but remember that this is sometimes hard after summer break!

You can mix these up and use them as bell ringers for the entire first week!
