This “la Suisse matching game” is played in groups of about 5 students and can be played as a shorter game or a longer one depending upon how many “cards” you copy for each group of students. There are 27 pairs of “la Suisse” related picture cards to use. Vocabulary is written on each card to help with “cultural” vocabulary development.
Cultural pictures include a variety of cities in the French speaking areas of Switzerland: Genève, Lausanne, Delémont, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Neuchâtel, and Vernier. General focus pictures are also included to cover some food items, and the Swiss flag. Asking students to read the name of the card out loud when it is their turn also promotes French oral work. These cards can also be the starting point to an on-line research project focussing on these cities of Switzerland.
This game can be played with beginner or more advanced French language students.
All cards are put face down on the table and each student takes a turn to flip over 2 cards. If the 2 cards are identical they get to try again. If not, it is the next student’s turn. The goal is to get as many pairs as possible.
