This handout offers pre-listening, listening, and post-listening activities to go with the song MADAME X by FRANCIS CABREL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkIK69sv1_s
This slow, short, moving song is easy to understand. The song is older but still relevant and powerful.
First students are given a list of relevant vocabulary words to define. Next, they are given photos and the song lyrics with numbered lines. They have to read the lyrics and ID the line of text that evokes the image pictured. After listening, they are asked to compare two images from the text--one of a luxurious home and one of a homeless person. Finally, they are asked to write a short reflection about the lesson the singer is trying to teach us (that we need to take care of our homeless population).
I use this song in my French 4 unit about housing in France.
