Note: These two worksheets are especially handy when doing the Série C and Série D worksheets as they provide the feminine and masculine spelling for color words and adjectives. For the Color vocabulary sheet, have the students highlight* in pink or blue the feminine or masculine spelling (ie noir=highlight in blue, noire= highlight in pink. I have also included the color words that are spelled the same regardless whether it's feminine or masculine. (ie rouge) The students will highlight one in blue and one in pink. The reason behind this becomes clear when doing the worksheets in Série C.
Teach the concept of feminine and masculine nouns with Lili and Léo (see below for the story that I tell my students before beginning to teach this concept). Using the Lili and Léo posters (free products) as guides, the students highlight* in pink (for Lili words) or blue ( for Léo words) each word on the vocabulary page. This page then becomes their reference sheet to complete the worksheets (Série A - D). Each worksheet is progressive in nature: Série A introduces a simple sentence with one noun. Série B introduces a sentence with two nouns. Série C adds color words to the sentence. Série D adds color words and adjectives. With each worksheet, the student will begin by filling in the 'picture word' (noun) which corresponds to the picture on their vocabulary page. They then highlight the word in pink or blue (according to their vocabulary page) and fill in the rest of the words to complete the sentence. By using this method the students begin to identify nouns in sentences and will later be able to auto-correct their own stories when they begin story-writing.
There are nine themes available: École, Les Animaux, La Nourriture, l'Halloween, Noël, Le Corps, Les Objets et Les Formes, Les Vêtements.
As TPT no longer allows sellers to sell 'hard goods', the corrresponding pink and blue cards for your word wall as well as cards to set up activity games for centres, may be purchased on my site Rosetbleu.com. These cards are especially useful as manipulatives when teaching the concept of sentence building and accords.
The story of Lili and Léo
(Begin by showing the posters of Lili and Léo. Ask the students what they notice about the posters - (Lili and Léo are both wearing t-shirts. Lili has pink on her t-shirt and shoes, Léo has blue on his t-shirt and shoes).
One day Lili and Léo decided to choose all their favourite words. Since Lili loves the color pink, she colored all her words in pink (like her T-shirt color). Léo on the other hand chose the color blue because that is his favorite color. Lili then decided that since she loves to sing, she would put the little word 'la' (as in 'la la-la la la') in front of her words. Léo decided he would use the word 'le' since it's in his favorite color word 'bleu'. When Lili noticed that Léo had chosen 'dinosaure' as one of his words, she asked whether she could have that word since she liked dinosaurs too. After thinking for a while, Léo said he would share it with her, but she would need to always color it blue. Lili agreed and told Léo that he could borrow any of her words as long as he kept them pink. From that day on, Lili and Léo continued choosing their favorite words and sharing them together.
*If highlighters are not available the students may underline the words with pink or blue pencils/markers.
