This is a project that I created for French I. I have the students complete it during the weather and clothing unit. It is also intended to be a cultural introduction to la francophonie. Students sign up for a francophone city and research it, with the end product being an 8-page booklet. The booklet includes 1 page for each season (including months in the season, weather phrases, average temperature in both F and C, clothing worn, and holidays celebrated), plus one page each about local foods, places one can visit in the city, a short biography of the author, and a cover.
This packet includes the following in pdf format:
- overview of the project. It gives an overview of the project, information on the book layout, timeline of the project, grading information, and ideas for extension activities.
- sign-up sheet with 32 cities. The sign-up includes cities in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Vietnam, and a variety of island and African cities.
- a 2-page student organizer. I used this to help students get their information organized before they ever started to create their books.
- a grading checklist. There are 2 checklists per page, to help you in saving paper. The checklist was intended to be easy for students to understand and quick for the teacher to grade, while still keeping the integrity of the project.
I would give the students at least 3 days for this project, and I talk about the timeline that I used in the overview.
