In order to differentiate my curriculum, I have created 3 levels of prompts to meet the varying needs of my writers in honors English. These prompts can easily be adapted or even used by non-honors English students as well. One prompt is a "challenge" prompt because it is not a topic we spent much classroom discussion time covering. The two in the middle are thought provoking topics that were mentioned in class but there's still lots on which the kids can write. The "lowest level" prompt is still honors level in that it requires them to argue a symbolic element in the novel, but it is simple enough where the kids can spend more time working with the format of the essay. I have a few kids who are having some organization issues so I know this essay choice will be perfect for them. I have attached a rubric that includes point values and expectations. Finally, I have added the Common Core skills I target when teaching writing. When I marked W.9-10.1 and W.9-10.2, all the sub-skills are targeted in this assignment. My school does use turnitin.com so that's why I am able to add W.9-10.6.
