Interactive Freshwater Fish Lesson & Fishing Activity

Bring aquatic science to life with this engaging Interactive Freshwater Fish Lesson and Fishing Activity! Students will learn about six common freshwater fish species while participating in a fun, hands-on fishing game that keeps them actively involved in the lesson.

This resource includes an interactive PowerPoint presentation featuring:

  • Smallmouth Bass
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Lake Sturgeon
  • Black Crappie
  • Channel Catfish
  • Walleye

Each species slide provides key facts about habitat, diet, physical characteristics, and ecological importance while helping students learn how to identify each fish in the wild.

To make learning even more memorable, this resource also includes printable fish templates. Simply print, laminate, and attach paperclips to create a classroom fishing game. Students take turns "catching" fish using a magnetic fishing pole. When a student catches a fish, click on that species in the PowerPoint to reveal information and identification tips. Then another student gets a turn to fish for a different species!

This activity combines science, outdoor education, and interactive learning to keep students engaged while building observation and identification skills.
