Friday Night Lights TV series is the very best teaching tool I have found in over 25 years of teaching English. The series won multiple awards for excellence. The FNL days our alternative school had the best attendance because students flocked to school to watch and discuss FNL. After viewing the episode I would conduct a discussion/writing assignment of the events/ideas presented. The discussion/writing ALWAYS lead to a lively exchange, as the episodes, characters and situations are very real high school experiences. Excellent for hard to motivate students!!! Needless to say it is never difficult to get students to view the next episode of this award winning television series.
The discussion questions are for the first five episodes of FNL. Each episode is 50 minutes, and the ensuing discussion/writing assignment varies. My recommendation is to do one episode per week, so the duration could be the length of one season (22 episodes in season one, season two - 15, seasons three, four and five are 13 episodes). Seasons two - five include viewing quizes plus the discussion/writing questions.
