This is one of the most popular activities at our High School (but works for any grade!). It's called "Friend-o-Grams!"
Counselors, Student Government, or Peer Leadership students sit in the lunch commons area at a table. They have these "Friend-o-Gram" cards spread out on the table and any student can write a compliment to any peer or teacher. We don't charge money for them to do it, and it raises the morale of our school so much! Especially in the dark winter days!
Make sure an adult reads through each Friend-o-Gram to make sure there is nothing inappropriate (there will always be those few right?!). We usually do this activity everyday for a week and get over 400 compliments to deliver. They are delivered by our Counseling office aides who look up the class for the student, write the period and room number, and then deliver them. It can take a good 2-3 weeks for our aides to deliver them all, but the impact it makes is huge.
We also do one of these events for Teacher Appreciation Week and tape every teacher compliment on the front office windows so everyone can see them. Make sure to print these on cardstock with bright or fun colors!
