This past year I realized how much my students enjoy learning about famous men and women that made a difference for our country. It turned into a writing center option and was a popular choice. They needed to do three steps before they could move onto learning about a new Historical American.
1. First, they chose their person and wrote letters asking their specific questions to Abe Lincoln, Rosa Parks, George Washington, etc...
2. They took time in the computer lab to research those specific questions.
3. Finally, the students wrote letters back to themselves as their famous counterparts, answering their questions and sharing other information that they had learned about. They got a kick out of becoming Abe, Babe Ruth, etc.
