I created this product to use with my kindergarteners and struggling first graders. I was trying to find a different way to do phoneme segmentation. Pushing chips on the table is only “fun” for so long! Let’s get them moving! Needless to say this was a hit with my kids and I hope it works well with yours too!
*Choose to print either the B&W or colored version of this activity. I suggest printing on cardstock and laminating since students will be stepping on them!
*Lay the frogs out (taping them is a good idea).
*Have students take turns picking (or you pick) the phoneme picture cards.
*Students will say what the picture is.
*Students will then tell you all the sounds in the word while hopping it out.
*You can make it a game and let them keep the cards they get correct and tally up at the end or just use the activity as practice.
Another version is YOU pick the card (do not show them) and say all the sounds. They will then have to hop out the sounds and blend the word together to tell you what it was! You can then show them the picture to see if they were correct.
Feedback is always appreciated!
