Description

This resource is a reader's notebook book study for Frog and Toad Are Friends, a classic early chapter book by Arnold Lobel, commonly used in first and second grade classrooms.

Kids love having their own little notebooks. Teachers love having kids think deeply about text. And who doesn’t love Frog and Toad?

Combine all of this good stuff with my “Frog and Toad Are Friends {A Book Study}" resource. It's easy to prepare and can be used in several ways: as an independent book study, as a focused partner reading assignment, as the framework for a small group student book club, or even with a guided reading group!

The Reader’s Notebook printables include BEFORE-reading, DURING-reading, and AFTER-reading activity pages (21 in all, plus 5 book-club inserts), specifically designed for each chapter of the story, and aligned to Common Core Standards.

Activities include:

  • Accessing Prior Knowledge
  • Vocabulary Study
  • Structured Note-taking
  • Focus Text Excerpts (Close Reading)
  • Taking Text Further (Extending Meaning)
  • Book Club Discussion Agendas for each chapter

*Please note that the reader's notebook pages in this resource are designed in a half-page layout (two copies of each page will print on each sheet of paper). With each set you print/copy, you'll chop the sheets in half and staple along the top edge, creating two snappy little notebooks! See the preview for a closer look.

Also includes a complete 'wider-line-spacing' version and an enlarged 'one-page-per-printed-sheet' version.
