Graphic Organizers are great for getting students to engage in information processing and higher order thinking skills. The children use clues to recognize information, make decisions about what is important and then use this information to identify main idea, supporting details and character traits. It helps children to structure their thoughts by putting it all down on paper. When students use graphic organizers they are learning to categorize, infer, summarize, compare and contrast, evaluate and organize details from a text.
