The purpose of the unit is to introduce students to the study of early humans (Paleolithic era) and to show how technology such as the development of tools and the use of fire led to the beginning of farming (the agricultural revolution). The informational poster covers the California History Social Science Content Standards for grade six. This unit is designed to promote the use of inquiry as a desired teaching tool.
6.1 Students describe what is known through archaeological studies of the early physical and cultural development of humankind from the Paleolithic era to the agricultural revolution.
This unit will inspire thinking through individual and group research that will require thought, collaboration, organization, and processing. Once students begin the process of researching, organizing their notes, and drawing conclusions from the materials gathered they will gain as much knowledge and insight as possible about their specific topics. The discoveries each student makes will help them develop the skills needed to become “experts” on their chosen subject.
