Thank you for checking out my From Seed to Plant comprehension set. While this was made to go with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journey’s second grade curriculum, it can really be used by anyone teaching the story From Seed to Plant. The newsletter is specific to the Journey’s unit and the compare and contrast page asks the students to compare the text to Super Soil from Journeys, but the rest of the pages are able to be used with just From Seed to Plant. I did not include specific page numbers.
If you are familiar with my comprehension sets, you will know that they are consistent from story to story. This is because I believe children work better with routine. It will take the children a short time to get used to the formats. Once they understand what to do on the sheets, they (and you) will be able to focus more time on learning the content and the skills each week. Because many reading skills/strategies are covered in each unit, student will quickly learn academic vocabulary. Many of the pages suggest an extension activity for the students to complete for homework. This will carry over what you learned that day and allow parents to see what you are studying.
Included are: alphabetical order, vocabulary, summarize, main idea and detail, author's purpose, text features, cause and effect, text connections, fact and opinion, compare and contrast, KWL
