"From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler," by E.L. Konigsberg is an amazing story of mystery, fun, and just the right amount of suspense for students in grades 3-6.
Included in this packet are a few things:
1. A comprehension page for each of the chapters in the book. There are 4 sections on each of the pages:
*Quick Write– a question posed from the chapter which asks students to write a paragraph in response.
*Vocabulary Match– four vocabulary words from the chapter are listed, along with the definitions on the right side. Students match the word and the definition.
*From the Text Comprehension– A question where students are asked to use text-based evidence to respond.
*Think Deeply– A higher-level question that asks students their opinion about an event/plot point in the chapter.
2. A brief article about the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
3. 8 graphic organizers to deepen understanding.
-Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting Jamie and Claudia
-Character changes throughout the story (3 organizers)
-Sequencing using a timeline
-Story Structure (conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution)
You can print the individual chapter comprehension checks, or print this as an entire packet. The way that I have this set up, you can easily print as a packet for students by simply printing back to back pages with one staple. Just print and go! :)
This is great for a whole class-read packet, for guided reading, or for a literature circle.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
