This sight word intervention program is as easy as ABC!
In 1996, Dr. Edward Fry expanded on the Dolch sight word lists and published the book Fry 1000 Instant Words. His research found that:
25 words comprise approximately 33 percent of all published text.
100 words comprise approximately 50 percent of all written text.
300 words comprise approximately 65 percent of all written text.
This is a complete intervention program, designed to teach students to recognize by sight Fry’s first 100 words --- with fluency and confidence. Unlike other sight word intervention programs, this program ensures that students have retained knowledge of previously taught sight words before moving along. This program ensures that students learn as quickly as they can, but as slowly as they need to.
Each intervention session is organized into two parts: (1) guided practice and (2) independent practice and check-out testing.
This word list is ideal for students in kindergarten and first grade. These materials may be used with students in RTI groups or with students receiving special education services -- or any student who has not yet mastered the first 100 Fry sight words.
The program is organized into 26 sets, labeled A through Z. Progress monitoring is built in. No flashcards! No cutting! Very low prep: no time-intensive prep! This program is effective and as easy as ABC!
