Designed by an Occupational Therapist, this resource provides 100 pages to practice reading each of the first 100 Fry Sight Words. Practice pages are presented in a sequential order according to the list of Fry Sight Words. Each word is presented with five fun and unique sentences.
- First children try reading the sight words in simple sentences. This helps children become familiar with reading the 100 most common sight words.
- Next, they circle the word in each line. Searching for the correct word helps children notice the visual differences between many similar words, an important step in learning to read. Send these pages home for more practice!
Sight words are often words that children cannot sound out phonetically, such as “have”, “there”, and “of”. Other sight words can be decoded, including “and”, “like”, and “get”. Sight words are also referred to as high-frequency words and can make up half of the words in many reading passages according to the Reading Research Center at the University of Iowa.
Children typically master sight words through frequent, meaningful, and repeated exposure. Repeated practice with sight words solidifies a child’s ability to memorize them. Exposure can include seeing, writing, finding, coloring, and building sight words.
