There are lots of Fry Word flash cards available but I still made my own because I couldn't find any that had all of these positive features:
1. Only 5 Pages! - If I'm sending home flash cards I don't want each student's set to be 30 pages long. With this set you get 20 readable flashcards per page so you can make a set for each student without blowing your copy budget.
2. Sentences for Every Word - The students don't know the words yet. They need context to be sure they are reading each word correctly. Also, reading the words in context improves long term retention of the word. Not to mention, bi-lingual parents tell me context is more helpful than translations or pronunciation guides.
3. Numbered Cards - My school uses a numbered Fry List. These cards have a tiny number in the top left corner to correspond with that list. That way I can give kids/parents specific directions to the words that kids still need to work on. ("Write these numbers down 413, 452, 477, 478 and 499. Now go work on those!" - So much quicker than writing down each word for the kid or helping them search for the cards in a stack of 100!)
4. Easy Goal Setting - The words come in rows of 5. I have kids cut out one row at a time so they are focusing on only 5 words at a time. I find they learn faster when they don't try to do too much at once.
I hope you find these as helpful as I have!
