Sight words build speed and fluency when reading. Accuracy, speed, and fluency increase reading comprehension. The Fry 100 sight words are a collection of words that a child should learn to recognize without sounding out the letters. The first 100 Fry sight words are some of the most common and frequently-used words to build vocabulary. Combining sight words with phonics instruction increases a child’s speed and fluency in reading.
This assessment binder is a complete tool for documenting sight word acquisition. It contains lists that break the Fry 100 down into smaller sets of words to practice for mastery. I included assessment checklists that can be used for documentation of these important words. There are flashcards to help build fluency and certificates to encourage students as they make progress.
