As teachers, we know that it is imperative for our students to be able to read sight words automatically. Sight words build fluency when reading. Being able to read fluently increases comprehension. Therefore, it is worthwhile to dedicate instructional time to building this foundational skill.
How Should I Use This Resource?
This resource is intended to be a tool that you can use to identify sight words that your students know automatically and those in which they need more practice. Also, this tool can assist with you demonstrating student growth throughout the year with these words.
In order to get started, simply make copies of the included sight word templates for yourself. Included are lists for the first 450 sight words. Give the student the student copies. The student copies have a smiley face under each word, so that students can place their finger there and track to the next sight word. Also, students can use the student template as an age appropriate data collection tool by coloring in the smiley faces that correspond to the sight words that they know automatically. It can be very motivating for students to want to color in more and more smiley faces each week and throughout the year as they learn new sight words!
I hope that you find this resource useful and easy to use. Thanks for stopping by Ta-Da Teaching Resources!
