Fry Word Powerpoint (All 1,000 words!)

WHAT IT IS:

This is a powerpoint of all 1,000 fry words! Feel free to project the presentation for whole group or use an iPad for small group instruction. This powerpoint was created using Dr. Fry's 1,000 Instant Words: The Most Common Words for Teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling book which was published in 2004.

INCLUDED:

-Powerpoint is set to a 3 second timer (this can be edited and changed to meet your needs)

PURPOSE:

I created this powerpoint for my students to warm up with to begin our reading block. I was using my word wall cards and it just started to get messy and annoying to hold them and put them away in the same order, etc! I'm very fortunate to have an iPad in my classroom just for me so I wanted to start using it for more than testing! Now that I've created this, I use the iPad to display the words for the students as we sit on our reading rug.

I designed the powerpoint to have a 3 second timer for those moments you want to project it for the whole class and you can walk around the room hands-free! Why 3 seconds? When I'm testing my students through mClass for TRC and DIBELS, they have 3 seconds to identify the word on their own so I wanted them to keep that pace! You can go into your powerpoint settings and change this if that best suits you.

I have recently reduced the timer to 1 minute because I found that my students were not in sync when we were reading them together AND they were siiiiinnnnggggiiinnnggg every word. So I absolutely encourage you to use this however works best for your students!
