This unit contains sight word sentences* that utilize the first 100 Fry Sight Words. Each word is attached to 5 sentence strips, for a total of 500 sight word sentences! Printable materials for two games are also included.
A pacing chart with the list of words can be found in the preview file.
Sight Word Sentences allow students the opportunity to recognize sight words in context, which can increase reading fluency and word recognition.
I created these sentences using the first 100 Fry Words. The words have been divided into 20 lists of 5 words. The intention is to complete 1-2 lists per week, depending on the ability of your students. I highly suggest differentiating the lists among your students.
The beauty of this product is in it’s progression. The sentence strips slowly build a robust sight word vocabulary using only words that students have already been exposed to. For example, the first set of sentences utilize only 5 sight words.** The second set of sentences use those 5 words plus 5 more. By the final unit, students should recognize all 100 Fry Words.
* There are about a dozen sentence strips that actually contain short phrases. This occurs at the beginning of the unit, where the sight word vocabulary is not robust enough to create a wide variety of complete sentences.
** The sentences use only the Fry Words and a few basic CVC words (cat, dog, big, etc.)
