Reading Station Ideas
Beat the Timer!
Materials- Laminate word sheet, partner, timer, and score sheet.
Directions- With a partner see how many words you can get in a minute. Your goal is to say all one hundred correctly under a minute.
Leap Frog!
Materials-Laminate word sheet, partner, and timer.
Directions- With a partner take turns saying a word.
Example: Partner 1 says every other word. While partner 2 says the words in between. The goal is to get through the 100 words without stopping. I have even used 3 kids for this! The kids love it and so do I because they are reading and listening to all of the words while tracking their next word.
Knock Out!
Materials-Laminate word sheet, partner, and timer.
Directions- The same directions apply as Leap Frog except when a student makes a mistake they are out! The students LOVE this game because they are waiting to catch the other one making a mistake so they can win!
Flash Cards
Materials-Laminate flash cards, partner
Directions- With a partner take turns saying words.
Pick It-Say It
Materials- Container, 2 sets of flash cards, 5 Crab Crunch Cards, partner.
Directions- Pick a card out of the container. If you say the word correctly you get to keep it. If you say the wrong word you have to put it back. Your goal is to have the most cards by the end of the station. If you draw a Crab Crunch Card you have to put all of your cards back in the container.
Go Fish!
Materials- 2 sets of flash cards
Directions- Pass out five cards to each player. No more than 4 players. Put the rest of the cards in the center face down. Have the students look at their cards for matches. Have the students go counterclockwise and ask the student for a card that is in their hand. If the player does not have it, draw a card from the center and continue to next player. Game ends when player runs out of cards.

Teacher Binder
I have a binder that is set up for assessments/record sheets. I have a copy of each of the five fluency 100 sheets. I let the kids practice for a few days then call each student back individually to say the fluency sheet which has the first 20 words.
Record the words that student misses on the teacher record sheet. When the student can pass and say all of the words on the fluency A sheet, they are ready to start B, etc. When the student has mastered all 5 fluency sheets they are ready for the test. Again make sure you record progress along the way. Once they have mastered the 2nd one hundred then move them to the 3rd 100. I have a chart in my room so the students can see and track their progress and watch their fish move.
I feel that this is very important because so many students have learning gaps because they can not read because they do not know their sight words. Phonics allows students to have a shot by sounding. Sight words are learned by practice and they are most commonly used.
