The objective of these min paragraph passages is to introduce students to new vocabulary while reviewing their sight words. Students will be challenged by each November themed informational text or fiction story. Perfect for 2nd graders but can be used with high 1st graders and Kinders. Use your knowledge of your students as you are able to tell if your students are ready for this type of task.
13 mini stories infused with new vocabulary and sight words. Each passage is about a paragraph long and has 3 to 4 sight words from the Fry’s 100 list to work with. Objective is for students to practice reading each day while working with their sight words. Challenging words are included to expose students to new vocabulary and critical thinking skills in reading. Students will learn how to keep the flow of a story by implementing the correct word into the story. Students
practice fluency by reading and re-reading the stories with the sight words and without the sight words. To demonstrate comprehension of the story, students can draw a picture on the back and write a 1 sentence summary of what the story was about. Students will highlight unfamiliar words in the passage and write them on the unfamiliar words recording sheet provided. They will keep this sheet and from time to time you can assess how many words they remember from their list. You may even send this list home for homework practice. Great for fun read, RTI, small group reading, free time, morning warm up and homework. Perfect for 1’st and 2nd but can be used with high Kinders. Includes large “ I can” statement to post at your center station. November sight word checklist with the Fry’s words.
