Sight Words/Instant Words: This powerpoint presentation is Fry's Instant Words #301 to 600. Each word is in large type at the top of the slide, followed by a sentence in which the focus word is written in red. Some slides have more than one sentence if the word can be used several different ways. (The slides are not an exhaustive list of meanings, and the sentences are not definitions though the meaning of the word can often be understood from context clues.) The slides are editable so that you may change sentences to better suit the needs of your students - adding class names for interest etc.
Ways to use this:
Set the transitions to 2 seconds and play this as a slideshow when students are arriving in the morning.
Have a team competition to see who can read more words (or sentences) in 1 or 2 minutes.
For a brain break have students get out of their seats and line up near the projector screen. The first student reads the word and/or sentence and rotates to the back of the line.
Students try to beat a previous time or increase the number of words read.
Beginning readers can read just the word in large type and omit the sentences.
In an ESL class, students can read the word and try to make their own variation of the sentences using the sample as a guide.
