This is a full, creative lesson for a middle school or high school English classroom (or even a history classroom). This lesson contains a full PowerPoint OUTLINE as well as guided notes, links to relevant View Pure video clips, and a full classroom group activity. Students are asked to read and respond to actual letters sent by soldiers while fighting the battle of Gettysburg. This is meant to be done in groups. Five letters (in typed text so they can easily be read) are included, so you could break students up into five or ten groups to complete that portion of the lesson. This lesson could take anywhere from 1 hour to 90 minutes, depending on how much depth you allow your students to go into on their group responses.
