March 17, 2020 -- Important Notice: This product's price has been reduced by half until April 30, 2020. If you're looking for ways to prompt your children to write at home, these Bingo cards were designed to serve as monthly challenges, but they could certainly be adjusted so that students have to earn a BINGO each week instead of month. They're editable, so you can remove the names of the months, if you wish.

From this TPT page, we sell our full set of monthly writer's notebook bingo cards. Be sure to look at the free preview of the first TWO months' of bingo cards to ensure this is a product your students would enjoy as much as ours do. You can also check out our classroom PINTEREST BOARD where we post great examples from our students when they use each month's center-square lesson.
Over three summers we created three unique products that have helped us build the best writer's notebook routine we've ever had in our classrooms. These bingo cards are one of those products, and they can be bought separately from this page, but you can also buy all three items as a bundle and save $5 using the following link: OUR WRITER'S NOTEBOOK BUNDLE BARGAIN
Dena and I begin each class session with ten minutes of quiet writing in our writer's notebooks. At the beginning of the school year, I--of course--have students who have no idea what to write about without an assigned prompt dangling in front of their noses, and so Dena and I created these Bingo cards as a way to teach them how a writer begins to find topics worth exploring and then remembers to bring those ideas to class each day. The goal of this Bingo card product is that students eventually learn to NOT need the cards anymore and to always come to class ready to write about their own experiences or thoughts without prompting from the teacher.
Over the summer of 2010, my wife--Dena--and I began mining our favorite prompt collections, our lessons, and our writing across the curriculum materials in order to create this brand resource to use with our students: Writer's Notebook Bingo Cards. The original set contained nine monthly cards, but in 2013, we added a tenth card for teachers returning to work in August. Anyone who'd bought the cards between 2010-2013 received the updated Bingo card set at no cost. All of our products work that way; if we improve the product, we send you the latest set completely free if you let us know your email address at the time of purchase.
Product History and Details: Each month's Bingo card features twenty-five total spaces; twenty-four of these spaces are topic-inspired/thinking challenges that students can creatively or logically respond to in their writer's notebooks during Sacred Writing Time; the center space of each card contains a secret link to an online notebook lesson that Dena and I do--whole-class--early on each month. Ralph Fletcher might disagree with us in assigning a whole-class writer's notebook lesson. I adore Ralph's notebook ideas that a writer's notebook should not contain assigned topics, but the center-square lessons are more about teaching a unique format that students can write using, and I want my kids to experiment with formats in their notebooks, and so I find the center-square lessons to be incredibly helpful.
Over the course of any month, our students are challenged to create a "five-in-a-row" Bingo or a "four-corners" Bingo. Doing so in our classes results in a prize from the extra credit bucket we each maintain in our two classrooms. We actually teach our students to--eventually--arrive in class with their own idea to write about so they don't need the Bingo card prompts, and most of them are able to do that within the first two months of school, but they always like to get a copy of the newest Bingo cards just to see if there is something on the card that tickles their writing fancies.
What you'll receive for $13.00:
1) 10 Writers Notebook Bingo Cards, for the months of August through May in PDF format. Each card contains 24 prompts and a guided, whole-class notebook lesson link.
2) 10 Writers Notebook Bingo Cards, for the months of August through May in Microsoft Word Format. If you have Microsoft Word, you can edit these cards' prompts. Any prompts that you'd like to re-word or customize, you have my permission to do so!
3) On-line access to ten, whole-class lessons for writer's notebooks. Links to these lessons are in the center box of each Bingo card. Only purchasers of this product will have online access to these ten lessons, which feature teacher models, student samples, and mentor text suggestions. These lessons will teach your students to experiment with different writing formats in the writer’s notebooks during Sacred Writing Time.
