This 30-page document includes everything you need to introduce the process for reading and writing about a literary text. The document comes complete with 5 lessons, the first an opening activity that sets a tone. The lessons take students through the process of reading a text (“Old Man at the Bridge”), writing a multiple paragraph response – SPECIFICALLY THE NYS CCRE PART 3 – about the text’s central idea and the author’s use of a writing strategy to develop the central idea. Using inquiry-driven activities and teaching strategies, students learn to analyze a challenging and brief text, preparing to write about it. Students take each paragraph one at a time, using sample responses to learn how to develop and revise their own responses. The product also features complete teacher slides as images that can be inserted into your own chosen slideshow format. While all of the paper materials are provided for you, there will be minimal copying needed, which is great for keeping students centered on the text, and reducing paper waste. It is important to note that the opening activity uses 3D wooden IQ puzzles that you will need to purchase, but all of the set-up directions are available for you. There are also 3 pages of bonus material included for future lesson planning! The person who purchases this product is an established teacher, or is ready to push students to a new level of reading and writing skill. Please note that there aren’t any grading instructions or rubrics as the writing task originates from the NYS CCRE, but a web address to all coordinating scoring material is included.
