Use popular Christmas songs to review various reading skills! This is a great (NO PREP) way to integrate Christmas and music into your ela lessons. This works great as a Christmas review, morning work, centers, and more.
Students use the lyrics to the Christmas songs "Jingle Bells," "Up on the Housetop," and "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" to answer phonics and reading comprehension questions. Students also use words from the song to write their own Christmas story.
Although students will probably be familiar with the first verses for each of the songs, the other verses will be unfamiliar. Sing the songs together as a fun way to build reading fluency.
