This activity is a fun way for students to interact and get to know each other without being awkward or embarrassed. It also requires students to use clues and draw conclusions about their classmates in a fun, engaging manner. Students need to know about the activity at least one day in advance so they can prepare their bag. I recommend providing the bags for students so that they are all identical. You can find them in the grocery store for cheap! Students will take their bags home and fill it with 5-7 significant items. On the activity day, compile all the bags in one place in the room. When you are ready, have each student randomly select a bag and take it back to their desk. Students will go through the items in their bag and fill out the itemized chart. They will try to guess the significance of each item. Then they will create a profile of the bag owner. They may include whether they think the bag owner is male or female, what sports they play, what they are interested in, where they work, where their family likes to travel etc. The last step is to guess which classmate owns the bag. When everyone has filled out their sheet, the real fun begins. Every student has a turn to share the items in the bag with the class, the profile they created for the mystery person, and finally reveal their guess as to who the bag belongs to. The guessed person will reveal if they are the owner of the bag. If they aren't, ask for the real owner to reveal themselves. Once everyone has had a turn, the bags should be returned to their rightful owner.
