This no prep resource includes 10 fun phonics mazes to help your students practice and review specific short vowel and long vowel sounds.

These phonics word sort mazes make a great alternative to the typical word sort. Students color in words with the appropriate short vowel or long vowel phonics spelling pattern in order to complete the phonics maze. Students must be able to differentiate between short and long vowel phonics patterns in order to be successful at this phonics activity.

This is best used as a phonics review of all the different short and long vowel spelling patterns.

Phonics patterns for short vowels:

  • cvc for all 5 vowels

Phonics patterns for long vowels:

  • ai, ay, a_e
  • ee, ea
  • igh, ie, i_e
  • oa, ow, o_e
  • ue, ew, u_e

There is a maze for short a, long a, short e, long e, short i, long i, short o, long o, short u, and long u vowel patterns for a total of 10 mazes. An answer key for each maze is also included.

This makes a great word study center for 2nd grade or 3rd grade students that are already familiar with the vowel spelling patterns.
