This download includes a full day of activities for your sub teacher (and perhaps some activities you'd like to use yourself!)
Morning and afternoon large group “messages” for students to complete and for the sub teacher to use as “get acquainted” and “end of day wrap up” meetings. Each message should take from 30 to 45 minutes of class time.
Fiction and non-fiction Reader Response papers for students to write after they have read independently for 30 (or more) minutes. Students will record what they learned about plot, characters, setting, and new words, whether they read a portion of a book or the whole thing. They will write about important facts and new words learned in their non-fiction reading. They also have a place to rate the reading with 4 ?’s (4 = great...1 = yuk) These reader response papers provide the opportunity for small group or large group sharing upon completion.
All activities today connect in some way to the number 3. The math activity provides practice with problem solving skills (finding the solution to a secret sentence) while practicing adding and subtracting 3-digits with regrouping. An additional worksheet explores the relationship between adding 10 groups of 3, and 10 X 3; and drawing a triangle with 3” sides.
Writing and social studies are combined. Students will practice writing paragraphs (script provided, as always) about African animals. Three parts of the paragraph include: opening sentence, supporting sentences, closing sentence. Students will read together a paragraph about a cheetah and then choose an animal to practice writing their own paragraphs.
Additional worksheets explore words with the “tri” prefix; practice with comparative adjectives, suggestions for word games to extend comprehension of new vocabulary words, and generating 100 or more 3-letter words.
A "skills builder" page for 3rd grade level math and language arts practice test questions with answer key added on 1/25/13. New coloring page added 4/23/13,
Also included in the plans is an activities grid that briefly explains each activity, suggestions for differentiation, materials needed, and COMMON CORE STANDARD APPLIED
