This is a fun activity to do combine practicing spelling words, subtract decimals, create change and count it back. Students start by writing spelling words three times in the first box. They then roll a dice three times - with each number taking the place of a dollar and cents amount for the "word." (My kids really liked it on our double consonant list when they paid a lot more for a "dollar!") Students then find their change by subtracting the cost from ten dollars in the third column. Finally, in the fourth column, students list how they would give that change back to a consumer. A follow-up activity I did with students was to give them access to the money they would need and have them act out the scenario! This is a great way to practice both spelling and math standards, as well as encourage understanding of a concept being forgotten in today's society!
