After being at my wits end with my toddler's behavior I had a quick and desperate idea for a home-made behavior chart. Since he is obsessed with Eric Carle stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar in particular, I went with that idea.
In a huff of frustration after he pushed his little sister for the millionth time, I grabbed a piece of paper and drew circles on it. I put in a smiley face and some legs and to my amazement an idea was born.
I showed it to my son who was in love immediately! I told him that this was Mr. Kindness and proceeded with a story about where he came from and how he knew the very hungry caterpillar as well.
In great detail I clearly told him what he needed to do (or not do) to color in a circle on this paper. I put it in the dining room next to where he sits to eat because it was easily seen and accessible there.
Within one day he was telling others about Mr. Kindness and explaining what he needed to do to fill it in. My kid's smart, but he isn't a genius or anything. It was just simple and fun. Anyone can tweak it to their situation.
