I created this when we had unusually beautiful weather one day in the winter. Instead of the regular math homework, I sent this home. My students loved the fact that part of their homework was to play outside! This gave them the opportunity to use their creativity in making a word problem. Then, they had to solve it using an equation AND they had to show how the answer was solved. We had been discussing different strategies for finding an answer. Most of my students chose to draw pictures as their strategy. Some used tally marks and some cut out pictures from a magazine that showed what they did. They were very creative!
