Bernoulli's Principle is a pretty hard concept to get, because it's opposite of everything we think we know. For example, roofs don't blow off during high winds - they're pushed off! And smoke isn't sucked out of a chimney - it's pushed out!
This presentation and its 4 activities/experiments are designed to simplify Bernoulli's and help students understand the relationship between fluid speed and pressure.
The presentation starts by asking: What in the world does an airplane have in common with a curveball? This essential question is just random enough to get their attention! The presentation then explains Bernoulli's Principle in big terms, then in simplified terms. Slide 5 is where you stop to do activities/experiments. The remaining four slides show images of airplane wings, airfoils, and a curveball, and finish with an explanation of how curveballs work, tying it all together.
The Fun with Bernoulli worksheet and instruction document has a student worksheet that accompanies the activities/experiments. Pages 2-3 of that document give detailed instructions for carrying out the activities, and also provide a complete Supplies List.
