Help your kids learn beginning sounds (p j v w) with a fun activity!
This activity aligns with Fundations Level K.
For advanced students, have the student identify and say the name of the item, then pick out the initial sound. Students should dot the letter, then write it.
Beginner and ESL students:
For ESL students and students with little phonemic awareness, say the name of the item out loud and point to each of the letter sounds. Say the sound for each letter and go back to the item name again and dot the appropriate letter. Then, write it. For beginners, you may need to write the letter in a light colored marker for tracing.
dab marker or regular marker
You can also cut the sheet into strips and laminate them to place in a jar, so that students can pick one out one at a time. This helps with differentiation. If a student is fast, he/she can take more, while other students can take their time.
