This is a game that covers function arithmetic and composition of functions. It also asks students to find domain of functions. Students can play in groups of four. The teacher can choose a four letter word for the game. Each member of the group chooses one of the letters. For example, if the word is love, then one person is L, one person is O, one person is V, and one person is E. Everyone is expected to complete each problem. Start with the first problem. After an appropriate amount of time, the teacher will call out a letter from the four letter word. The student in each group who had chosen that letter shows their work to the teacher. If it is correct, then the teams get 1 point and that student can come up and take a 2 point, 3 point, or 5 point shot into the trash can. If it is incorrect, then the team gets no points for the round. I use white boards for the students to do their work and a small squishy ball to throw. I put tape on the group denoting the 2 point, 3 point, and 5 point lines.
