Following up on Function Fun, Parts 1 & 2 or used as stand-alone lessons, this activity allows students to apply their understanding of functions in tackling three realistic problems: “Banking on Functions”, “The Great Yo-yo Festival”, and “A Nutty Function.”
"Banking on Functions" helps students see and use slope and y-intercept to write equations that apply to savings accounts.
In "The Great Yo-yo Festival" students are effortlessly guided into the y-mx+b form of linear equations in an understandable and palatable context.
The third activity, "A Nutty Function" helps students see slope as rise over run and understand the meaning of y-intercept by analyzing how they apply to a physical object. The surprising ending will reward you with many "ah-hah's"!
