This is a cross-curricular lesson on voting systems!!
Surprisingly for those who do not know how the system is constructed makes a significant impact on the result !! You only have to look around the world at say how the republicans and democrats decide on their respective candidates.
The lesson involves an activity where you take the same 11 ballot papers and use them to decide on the winner using 5 common voting systems. Needless to say, each system creates a different winner. This is a great cross-curricular lesson.
The plenary is a look at the UK voting system and its results from the election in 2011. This could easily be updated for the last General Election (GE), however, the figures, in my opinion, are more interesting from 2011.
