This resource is a document containing four simple reading "truths" and an explanation for each one. This is designed to be used as a classroom or reading specialist's poster, to inspire and educate students and parents about the power of reading. I wrote the reading "truths", so they are my opinion, formed by years of teaching middle and high school students.
I have added some ideas for how to incorporate the reading truths into your classroom and lessons, including how to use it throughout the school year to reinforce the power of reading.
I find that it has been very helpful to me in communicating to students the relevance of why we are continuing to improve our reading skills throughout middle and high school. Students need to know the "why" before they get fully engaged with your day-to-day lessons, and now more than ever, administrators and districts want to ensure that teachers are connecting our content and skills to the real world and explaining the relevance to students.
