This ZIP file contains all Unit 1 lessons (including the Orientation week). Once opened, each week is saved as a PDF file with 9-10 pages. I created these lesson plans to make it easier for me (and other teachers) to implement the Fundations K program. It is aligned with the 2nd Edition that came out in 2012. The activities are setup in order recommended by the manual. It works great for teachers who are just starting out with Fundations, left as sub plans, or given to an aide to provide a double dose.
Each day provides detailed directions in the activities you must do. On days where you will practice letter formation, the letters for that week are included on that day's lesson. For drilling sounds, a box that includes all of the letters can be marked to remind you (or a sub) what letters to focus on that day, what letters have already been taught, or what letters should be reviewed. If there was a story provided in the manual, it is written into the lesson plan so that you can carry just a paper around the room instead of the whole manual. Sentences, syllables, and CVC word activities have directions spelt out, but word choice are left blank so that teachers can fill in whatever words they want to use. Some Make It Fun activities are also left blank so that the teacher can fill in what Make It Fun activity they want to do. For Units 2-5, a table of words recommended by Wilson is provided at the end of each week for teachers to choose from.
How to use this resource:
Print out the lesson plan (I recommend printing each unit's worth of lesson plans in different bright color paper. That way its easy to find if you put it down somewhere in the room or on your desk :)). Hole punch and put into a one inch binder. Tailor the lesson to meet the needs of your students by adding your own notes on what letters to review, what sentences to use, or what words to tap. As you move through each lesson, move it to the back of the binder. At the end of the year, you'll be back at the start ready for next year!
