This is an anticipatory set designed to introduce the concept of le futur simple to your students.
Students use the picture to infer that the reading will be about someone's future. They then work in groups of two to read the paragraph. The verbs in le futur simple are bolded.
After reading, students will classify the verbs into categories (-er, -ir, -re, pronominal, and irregular). They will then use context to guess the infinitive (particularly for the irregular verbs) and discuss with their partner how le futur simple is formed.
Verbs included are:
décider, donner, gagner, rencontrer, trouver
aller, avoir, devenir, être, faire, mettre, pouvoir, recevoir, vouloir
This exercise provides an excellent introduction to le futur simple and gives students a context before receiving formal notes from the teacher on the formation of the tense. I've found that when students can deduce the rules on their own, they are more apt to remember them! You could also have students do this independently for homework the night before your lesson on le futur simple.
