Expose your students to authentic usage of the futur simple and the "quand + futur, future" construction using the music and poetry of one of France's most controversial public figures - Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
In this activity, students will first conjugate the missing verbs from the lyrics to the song in the futur simple, then will listen to Bruni's song "La Dernière Minute" (please find a recording of the song...or look it up on my YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuVGA2-POfG5lW35HjYJMKfMQGZM4BS3e) to verify their verb conjugations.
After checking the answers together (which are included), students will explore the lyrics of the song, highlighting their reading comprehension skills and challenging them to interpret the singer's attitude toward aging from the tone she creates musically and lyrically. In a fun inference activity, students will play tabloid reporters and decide whether or not Bruni has indulged in plastic surgery based on photos of her over the years and the ideas expressed in the song.
Finally, students will reflect in writing on their own attitudes towards aging and the passage of time. This can be turned into an essay, a debate or a small-group discussion. The sky's the limit!
